GC Grads Give Back!
The chairs of the GC Grads Give Back Committee present over $600 to the Gander SPCA.  The money was raised through a fun night of movie, food, and friendship.

Sixteen-year-old Matthew W. won his award for his Junior Prose story “Der Schwarzwald while Dane Gill was recognized in the senior short fiction category for his story “The Astronaut's Dog.”

Matthew is no stranger to the awards program. It’s his fourth year bringing home an award. The 16-year-old has been recognized for both his poetry and prose.

Matthew’s story is about two girls who take a walk in the forest only to be preyed upon by a wolf.

He wrote the piece for a writing course in school.  While he looks forward to completing writing assignments for school projects, Matthew also writes in his off time.

“I write when I get the urge to write, which usually happens pretty often.”

Matthew received a cheque for $350 for his prize winning piece of writing.  A Grade 11 student at Gander Collegiate, Matthew enjoys both reading and writing.   One of his teachers - Leanne Mills - has been very supportive of his writing, he said.  While he has yet to decide what he’ll focus on once he finishes high school and heads to university, Matthew said writing is definitely in his future.
